February 21st, 2009Packaging Design - SuperSoil Manures, Mulches, Mixes (Toast Design, Sydney)
February 14th, 2009At the end of the day, shit’s still shit and dirt’s still dirt and one walks a fine line when rebranding these products. To visually suggest they’re something else would be as dishonest as it would be futile, but I believe that this rebranding (which I was involved with) has been very successful .
The challenge of creating packaging design for composts and the like is one that can be met with great results in an essentially “untapped” area of design (see the ” before” photo for evidence). They key in the case of the SuperSoil rebranding by Sydney Packaging Design Specialists Toast (www.toastpackaging.com.au) is the strong use of colours for instant detection and recognition amid a sea of (rather dull, predominantly white) competing products.
The only catch is that these bags aren’t seen face-first, but rather, in stacks dozens high, whichever way it was was most convenient to plonk them, and these piles are generally obstructed by other shit (ho ho ho!) so standing out is not only a way to attract attention of potential purchasers, but with distinct use of colours, existing users of SuperSoil Mulches Manures and Mixes will be easily able to locate their favourite brand in the myriad. The bags are 100% drenched in their distinct pantone colour, meaning, whichever way they’re viewed from, they’ll be able to be spotted among the crowd.
